Estate History: Gianna Nannini might be one of Italy’s most celebrated pop icons, but her big love — besides music — is wine. Fifteen years ago the Siena native took over local estate Certosa di Belriguardo, and with the help of expert winemakers has turned it into one of the most interesting wineries in the area. An energetic presence in the vineyard, Nannini connects deeply with her Tuscan roots, imbuing her wines with the same familiar passion heard in her music. Quintessential expressions of the Sangiovese variety, these wines, dare we say it, really rock.
Tasting Notes: The Certosa di Belriguardo Baccano is a seamless blend of Sangiovese and Syrah. Aromatically loaded with ripe cherries (and perhaps an influence of a local grove of trees), the firm and powerful structure of the wine wraps the palate in a sensory overload, powerful and loud – not unlike the music of the winemaker!
